For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. Habakkuk 2:14 (KJV).
REFLECT:
The desire to know or to be in the know! Knowledge is a huge part of being human. As human beings, we have in us that tendency to want to explore, investigate, and be curious. We just have to look around the world we live in. There is a craze and mad rush to acquire knowledge, any knowledge and it does not matter if it is something good or bad.
Well, this drive and search for knowledge should not come as a surprise to us, after all, when God created man He gave man free course to do just that (Genesis 1:28), “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” (KJV).
What God was saying to man at the beginning of creation in Genesis 1:28 was- ‘experience me through your exploration of my creation, and uphold, reverence and have a relationship with me as you explore and master my creation.’ However, when man disobeyed God and opted to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, something else was introduced, corrupted knowledge and a distorted awareness of God.
Man rather than worship God worshiped His creation and allowed creation to dictate the course of his life and existence. What we got was a downward spiral of man’s existence as a result of sin and degeneration through the eras that followed.
Thank God He made a way of escape and deliverance in His Son Jesus who paid the ultimate price on the cross to redeem mankind and all of creation. This singular act was what was prophesied years ago by the prophet Habakkuk which we read in our Bible verse for today.
So, what is our Bible verse for today accentuating? Categorically it is telling us that In Christ Jesus,
1. True and Holy knowledge of God will be restored.
2. We will once again come to experience God through the avenue of relationship and true worship.
3. We will begin to explore and take charge or have dominion over nature and creation through the lenses of the sovereignty of God’s presence, power, and dependency on His abilities, guidance, and leading.
4. That the knowledge and the Glory of God will not only be revealed, but will increase in unprecedented ways, and take over the entire earth as Jesus reigns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. HALLELUJAH!!
As we give ourselves to a diligent walk with God, spending time with Him, reading and learning from His Word and by His Holy Spirit, we will begin to experience a deepening of our knowledge and understanding of who this God is, what His Glory entails and all that He holds for us in all of creation.
