BIBLE VERSE:

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure, they are and were created. Revelation 4:11 (KJV).

REFLECT:
Worship! This is a very important and popular word, term, and activity intrinsically woven into the fabric of every culture, tradition, and society. So, what is Worship and what does it mean to us? Why should we worship? How should we worship? Who should we worship? What can we or the society in which we live gain from the act of worship? These are pertinent questions we should ask as we consider this topic.

The following are a few answers as well as explanations to some of the questions in the paragraph above
Firstly, worship can be seen as an act of the will, an intentional expression of man to reverence, adore, adulate a deity, person, or thing.

Now worship may mean several things to us, this is because it is an act that is ingrained in us right from time. So, whether we know it or not, as created beings, we were created to worship. Based on this fact, man has always craved an object to worship, reverence, or adore.

Also, as a result of this inert passion for worship, there is always wonder or passion in man to connect with something much bigger than himself, to give him a sense of purpose and destiny. If you look down history we must have read different historical facts of man’s activities with the numerous deities man interacted with in the post-Adamic era. These deities were worshiped in exchange for help, and other favors that had to do with life and sustenance played out in various cultures of origin.

Unfortunately, man’s interaction with these numerous deities never gave man any form of true identity or purpose, again down the pages of history we see the record in annals presented of how man’s identity and purpose were systematically thwarted by these deities in their demand for human blood sacrifices as a form of worship, adulation, and honor. The sad truth in this is that this type of worship is still going on in this day and age in which we live. Therefore, it is to be wondered if such a form of worship that undermines the purposes and true identity of man in this gruesome and barbaric manner should be the kind of practice we should term as worship? Or, the deities who demand such worship, should they be seen as true, trustworthy, or reliable?

In this case, therefore, we may ask the questions a lot of us ask when we get to the point of realization, who should we then worship? Why should we worship this person? How should we worship?

The following statement is a conclusive summary and answer to the questions above. Also, this statement gives us a clear, accurate, and profound explanation drawn from our Bible verse for today.

This Bible verse gives us the fact of who we are, and this is that we are created beings, created by a Supernatural and powerful being, for a specific purpose. We are expressly told that we are created by GOD ALMIGHTY, the owner of heaven and earth and everything in them whether visible or invisible (Colossians 1:16). The reasons or purposes why God created us—- man are:

1. So that man can be connected in an intimate relationship with God through the medium of worship and adoration.
2. God created man so that man might come to a full understanding of who God is, His nature and character, and to experience God’s goodness, love mercy, grace, and everything God has to offer His creation.
3. God intended for man to serve the purpose of being true imagers of His nature on the earth as we carry out the different callings, destinies assigned to each one of us so that the earth may be filled with the glory of God.

So how can we worship God? The Bible tells us that we must worship God in Spirit and truth(John 4:23 – 24). To achieve this we must receive and accept JESUS as the only gift of God to man. We must acknowledge that God sent Jesus His Son to the world to die on the cross for our sins to reconcile us back to God our Heavenly Father. When we do this God the Father and Jesus our Lord and Savior will come to dwell in our hearts in the person of the Holy Spirit. As we commune with the Holy Spirit daily through God’s Word and prayers, the Holy Spirit teaches and shows us how to effectively worship, and serve God. This experience with God’s Spirit opens us up to a new and vibrant knowledge of God—- This is what Worship is all about. The Worship of a Perfect Creator with a Perfect purpose!

When we engage and give ourselves wholly in worship and service to GOD ALMIGHTY the creator of the universe as we know in the Bible, there will always be a definite realization of purpose and destiny in this life and in the life to come.
