My help cometh from the LORD, Which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:2 (KJV).
REFLECT:
As human beings we all fall into trouble in some way or another, such problems could border between mild problems in which solutions could be easily provided without the intervention of a third party.
However, occasionally, issues and situations could get very serious and may cause us to call out for help. In such situations, how do we go about looking for the help we need, and who do we call out to help us?
From experience, and if we are truthful to ourselves, our first reaction would be to go to people we know, such as friends, family members, and many other sources for help. We usually hope that such sources would have the solutions we need during such trying times to get out of the difficulties we may be facing.
By the way, there is nothing wrong with running to people who are close friends and family members or maybe places if they are genuine and relying on them. However, should they be our first line of recourse? Going by what our Bible verse for today is telling us, we notice the answer is no.
Our Bible verse specifically redirects our attention from people and points us to someone bigger and higher than the arm of flesh. So, who is this someone we must look to as a first resort for help rather than the men or people who are in our lives that we know? Our Bible verse introduces this someone to us as the Lord God Almighty.
So, why must we depend on the Lord and not man? This is because as humans we are fallible and are prone to disappoint at any time. Jeremiah 17: 5 emphatically warns us against putting our trust in the arm of flesh – man, for he cannot be trusted explicitly to solve our problems, and worse still when we go out of our way to put our trust in man we bring upon our lives a curse. Such as curses of disappointments, dissatisfaction, unfulfillment, failure, poverty or lack, etc.
However, with God Almighty this is not the case, He is infallible and very capable in every way. His ability to help and deliver us from every problem is without question. He is incapable of any kind of disappointments. Hence the Psalmist in the Bible verse for the day expressly declares this fact encouraging us to turn our gaze and our attention to the only one who is the source of all help, all hope, and all comfort—GOD our Heavenly FATHER.
When trouble comes calling or knocking no matter how small or great they may be, we must make it a point to turn to the right source, our heavenly FATHER for help. He is the only reliable standby that we can ever depend on and when we look to Him a guaranteed solution is bound to come our way.
