The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. Isaiah 9:2 (KLV).
REFLECT:
The word light is a universal term, with a lot of symbolic meanings or connotations. For example, light may symbolize the following: purity, good, rightness, righteousness, progress, development, sight, vision, truth, knowledge, enlightenment, awareness, freedom, hope, joy, salvation, etc.
The truth is everyone would like to be associated with the concept of light. Of course, we all want to be people of vision, we want to be knowledgeable, we would like to be in right standing with the people in our lives. We want good things to always happen to us. We want to live in developed cities, having all the amenities and infrastructure civilization may afford and the list of expectations is endless.
So, the truth is that, yes, we all want to be associated with light, however, it is sad to note that a good number of us are far from this reality. We are still immersed in the despair, depression, and hopelessness of darkness. Unfortunately, some of us don’t even realize that we are groping in darkness or the dark, by allowing ourselves to be blinded through indulging in the things that constitute darkness. In such a state we just go through the motion of self-deception, which by the way, is a condition that is brought about by associating with darkness.
Why is this the case? Or why are people still blinded by the deception of darkness? How can we get out of darkness and get into the true Light? The answers to these are as follows:
Firstly, the issue is that many of us have not fully received and embraced the true light. Our Bible verse for today tells us how the light, referred to as a great light, has come into, or ushered itself upon a people who walk in darkness, and these people have seen this great light. It is one thing to see the light and it is another to accept this light. The first step is seeing the light and after that acknowledging it.
Secondly, who is this great light? We are told in John chapter 1: 8 – 9, who this great light is, He is Jesus Christ the Son of God, the Light of the world, also known as the Word of God made flesh.
Thirdly, the solution to getting ourselves out of darkness is to acknowledge and accept Jesus as the true and great Light, receive all that He accomplished for us through His death on the cross, His resurrection from the dead, and His Glorious Ascension into Heaven where He is right now seated at the right hand of God the Father.
Furthermore, when we accept Jesus the great light of the world, every darkness will be cast out of our lives and all that it represents, such as sin, hate, malice, unforgiveness, unproductivity, wickedness, sickness and disease, hate, unrighteousness, decay, and death.
With this light will come everything we have always desired as human beings to have such as purity, good, rightness, righteousness, progress, development, sight, vision, truth, knowledge, enlightenment, awareness, freedom, hope, joy, salvation, redemption, and life more abundant.
When we allow Jesus the true and great Light to reign and shine in our lives, we will experience the benefits that come with the dawning of His Great Light upon us.
