REFLECT:

As human beings, we all crave Life and Peace. The solution to this craving, we are made to understand from our Bible reading for today, is only fulfilled when we set our minds on the things of the SPIRIT and not on the things of the flesh.

The flesh or fleshly things and habits are characterized by selfish, self-centered, greedy, and evil desires. We also have the issues and problems we face daily; these constitute the pressures and stress that we need to cope with such as the stress or pressure from work, family matters, bills to pay, relationships etc. These factors play a huge role in getting us distracted from our primary calling in CHRIST and prevents us from focusing on the things of the SPIRIT. It is true that we cannot run away from certain kinds of stress and pressure, however, they can be brought under control if we know how to regulate them, and the answer or solution is what our Bible verse is offering to us today, which is anchoring our minds on the things of the SPIRIT.

To put it differently, anchoring our minds is having or developing a fixated mindset. Going by the dictionary meaning of the word fixated it tells us to develop an obsessive attachment to someone or something or direct our eyes towards a specific goal.

So, the question we should be asking is; how can we become fixated on the things of the SPIRIT? Can this be achieved? The response to these questions is ‘Yes.’ To achieve this feat, it would require us spending quality time with GOD in HIS Word, and through Prayer seek GOD’S heart, but most of all we must be willing to obey GOD’S commandments or instructions. Only then can we truly realize our heart’s desire for Life and Peace.

FATHER GOD, thank you for being who you say you are. Forgive me for the times I’ve let things that don’t matter consume my thoughts. Please help me fix my mind on you and what you are doing. Change the way I think so that I want to fill my mind with things that please You. In JESUS MIGHTY NAME AMEN!
