But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 2 Corinthians 9:6 (KJV).
REFLECT:
How have we been sowing and what have we been reaping? Sowing and Reaping are fundamental aspects of human life and existence.
They are principles that God in His magnanimous benevolence gave to mankind to sustain and enrich our lives. If we look around our world everything we see being sustained is because of this very principle of sowing and reaping.
However, even though we know that this principle was established and introduced by God into our world, nevertheless, the onus, duty, or responsibility still falls on us– mankind. We must work diligently to keep this principle alive, after all, God gave us complete ownership of the earth.
In saying this, the questions we must ask ourselves are:
What must we sow? How must we sow?
When must we sow? How does our sowing affect our reaping? What examples of sowing and reaping should we emulate or follow?
These are very pertinent questions, and the answers to the questions will be explored in the following paragraphs.
To know what we must sow; we must first and foremost understand the basic fact(s) of sowing and reaping. One basic and the most diversified fact is that it is associated with planting and harvest or harvesting.
This is diversified because it is not only subject to crop cultivation (which most of us tend to dwell on), but it has other concrete or physical connotations as well as abstract meanings which affect and we are involved in. For example, substances such as money, time, thoughts or emotions, behavior, etc, are all connected to or constitute in the ‘what to sow’ question.
Again, we must always reflect on the manner of our sowing. Compulsion, sentiments/emotions motivated by greed, selfishness, or other devious ulterior motives are all unsuitable positions to sow from because they will yield a bad result.
Rather we must sow from a place of the goodness of our hearts and conscience, and when we know we can make a positive and eternal life-changing difference, no matter how big or small the difference may be. It is out of this that life can truly be sustained and enriched. Refer to 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, Galatians 6:7-9; Proverbs 22:9.
Finally, our model for sowing and reaping must come from God Almighty, who gave His best, by sowing the life of His only Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins, not because we deserved it, but because of His Love for us. Therefore, when we sow, we must do it from the place of love, service, and worship to God for all He did for us in Christ Jesus. Out of such motives, will accrue onto us, God’s favor, blessings, and benefit.
When we understand that sowing and reaping characterize God’s best for our lives, practicing this principle following God’s mandated purposes will always be our sole desire.
