There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless, the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. Proverbs 19:21 (KJV).
REFLECT:
One amazing gift God bestowed in man has been the ability to think, aspire, and become. Genesis 1:26-28 explains this fact clearly, here, God gives us a mandate to ‘be fruitful, multiply and have dominion.’
Therefore, from the understanding we have from the mandate is that as humans from the outset we have been empowered to be, to think, and to aspire to achieve God’s best for our lives.
However, to fulfill this mandate God wishes us to do this within the parameters of His will and calling for our lives. Sadly, man has always wanted to go his route away from the will and purpose of God, and this rebellious act has cost man a lot of heartache and trouble.
Nonetheless, God in His infinite love and goodness still makes it His business to stir man’s heart towards Heaven’s purpose. We must understand that it is only Heaven’s purpose, that is, the divine purpose and will of Almighty God that will stand the test of time.
For this reason, God wishes that we partner with Him to fulfill the divine purpose, destiny, and mandate He has placed on us and to do this according to the council of His goodwill. For this reason, our Bible verse today clearly states the fact of this matter.
So, why would God require us to partner with Him? The reasons I believe are,
1. God desires an intimate relationship with us.
2. He desires that we work with Him as a team. He enjoys seeing us explore and discover more about Him and loves it when we create alongside Him. Just like the scenario in Genesis 2:19, when God allowed Adam to name the animals.
3. Since He is not an absentee God and Father, He wants to be involved in our day-to-day affairs and life.
4. He does not want us to make mistakes that would bring us untold hardship.
Another vital question to consider, is how can we effectively walk in God’s will and purposes for our lives? To accomplish this, we must first and foremost seek and desire to have a relationship with God in His Son Jesus Christ.
Secondly, we must cultivate and nurture this relationship with the Lord by seeking Him daily, spending time in His Word, and praying.
Finally, we must choose to allow God to lead, direct, and guide our lives by His Holy Spirit.
We can never fully decipher God’s plans for our lives outside His will. Therefore, our God-ordained dreams and purposes can only be realized when we bring God into the picture.
