For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV).
REFLECT:
The character of a person speaks volumes about who that person is, and what they are capable of doing. For this reason, character validation or authentication is taken very seriously in our societies to have a safe and sane society.
That is why when there is a cruel and wrongful assassination or assault against a person’s character it takes a lot to redeem such a character. Also, the penalty by law for character assassination or deformation is quite grave.
So, what does the term or word character mean and why is this very important? Character in the sense for which it is being used in this context represents a person’s mental and moral qualities distinctive to the individual. It could also be referred to as a person’s personality, nature, disposition, temperament, temper, etc.
Generally, a person’s character describes who they are. The reason why the concept of character is very important is that it defines us as human beings. A person’s character will determine how they relate with people in their societies, or how others will want to identify with them.
Now with the many changes we see in our world it is observed that people cannot say very much about the credibility of their character. We find very fickle and unstable displays in character all around us. This leaves a lot of us who still hold highly certain moral standards extremely careful, and cautious about who we want to associate with.
Nevertheless, whether we see ourselves as having impeccable or flawless character traits or think our character has gone through some upheavals in which it has lost its moral essence we must realize that as human beings we are not perfect.
We will be surprised to discover that even the most flawless character amongst us still have chinks in their armor. These chinks are even more obvious when we bring our characters in line with what God demands, that is the righteous standards of God’s laws.
Our Bible verse for today gives us a glimpse of what God says about His character as against ours. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV).
With such a statement there is no comparison to it. He is a righteous God period, which leaves us with no right to boast and flaunt our less than perfect behavior or character thinking so highly of ourselves that we have life all figured out. So, what must we do to align our ways with God’s ways? All we need is a Character Adjustment.
To achieve this, we must learn to humble ourselves before God and put all forms of ego, and pride in the pit. We must come before our Holy God willing to learn from Him and accept His ways. The focus here should be on God’s ways and thoughts, not ours.
When we do this God our Heavenly Father will respond to our heartfelt humility and endearment by lifting us to His standards of behavior, thoughts, and personality. “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” James 4:6 (KJV).
When we humble ourselves and allow God to adjust our character to come in line with His, we enjoy the privileges of partnering with Him to make a difference in our world, enforcing God’s will on the earth as it is in Heaven. “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10 (KJV).
