Power to Overcome

Jun 10, 2022

Splashing sea waves rolling over rocky coast.

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4 (KJV).

REFLECT:
Equipping ourselves for future eventualities, especially with safety, security, and protection is something we humans are very careful to work to accomplish.

People go the extra mile to get trained on how to defend themselves by employing different methods, or techniques. Some take martial art classes to gain combatting skills, others train themselves to gain some knowledge of how to be alert to detect suspicious behavior around them.

Many others acquire gadgets they can carry on them to use when they are at risk of any attacks. Houses and properties are thoughtfully secured with security gadgets. All of this is to give us a sense of safety or the power to overcome anything or anyone who is a threat to our general comfort or well-being.

Of course, everyone has a right to defend themselves, their family, loved ones, property, and all that they own. Nobody would want to be defrauded and forcefully deprived of what belongs to them by the so-called wicked and undesirable elements we know as thieves, armed bandits, criminals, and workers of iniquity in general.

Our world has become so unsafe with the devil on rampage seeming to go all out against man from every angle. Evil men in our midst have aligned themselves with Satan who has assigned them to do these wicked acts. These men have decided to give their will over to the devil to take part in the evil activities and to commit such wicked crimes against their fellow men.

So, what can we do to secure and protect ourselves? It is true as was mentioned earlier in our discussion that there are methods and strategies people could employ to train and arm themselves for personal combat. However, is this enough, and how far can we go with this? Could there be a better and more secure way or solution to the problem?

There is a more realistic solution to this problem. A solution that is stress-free, and devoid of worry, anxiety, and fear, which in the first place is the devil’s intention to bring us under. The answer we are looking for is found in our Bible verse for today in 1 John 4:4, which states “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

What is this Bible verse insinuating? It is saying that as children of God—that is if we believe that we are God’s children in Christ Jesus —-then we need not fear nor should we be anxious and be in daily trepidation for our lives.

This Bible verse is telling us that we are already armed with something greater. A greater, fiercer, and more glorious power, and amazingly this power resides within us. Even more awesome is that this power already confirms us as having overcome before we even encounter the problems that seem to be lurking out there in the darkness.

This great power is the person of the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit represents God the Father, and the Son, Jesus Christ in us. Jesus lets us know this in John 14:23 “Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man loves me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” (KJV).

What does the above information mean? It means that we have the whole of Heaven residing inside of us. All of God’s Power abides in us. Apart from Having God’s Power in us, remember that leading up to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost Jesus had already risen vicariously from the dead.

Jesus’ victory over the grave and hell also announces to us that He has overcome everything that holds the world ransom to evil and wickedness, and has given us this victory as well. Therefore, because of this, we have more than what it takes to overcome the world
HALLELUJAH!!!

Therefore, we must trust in God’s ability to protect us and save us from evil. Let us begin to spend time cultivating and strengthening our relationship with God by spending more time with God, reading His Word, and working with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is more than capable to deliver us from any evil and harm. As we listen to His voice He will lead, guide, instruct and direct us on the best strategies and actions we must take. “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” John 16:13 (KJV).

We do not have to do the work by our strength, it is hard work to do this and it takes a huge toll on us. We must trust God for His strategy, and that strategy is the Holy Spirit. Most important in this matter is that Jesus has already overcome the World and the devil so that we can be armed for combat using God’s strategy—-the HOLY SPIRIT.

Our ability to overcome the evils in the world orchestrated by the devil will depend on how much we believe that Jesus our resurrected King has already overcome for us and has given us God’s victorious strategy, which is the Holy Spirit. PRAISE THE LORD!!
