For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 (KJV).
REFLECT:
Many of us tend to shy away from things we cannot truly describe, understand, or fathom. Usually, it is a new concept, idea, or way of life, just something that doesn’t fit into the old mold of living that we are so used to.
This type of attitude is so typical of us humans, the reason is that we want to be able to rationalize everything, if we are not able to describe, see or understand something with our human senses, then it is a place we must not venture into.
This shouldn’t be the case, the thing is, we must understand the mercy and grace of God and how He wishes to pull us out of the familiar, which for some of us is a place of total darkness, sin, and hopelessness, which, unfortunately, we are blinded or ignorant of.
For others, we may already know and love the Lord, however, we are afraid to experience more of Him, because the new revelation seems a bit wacky and does not align with the usual rhetoric of our weekly sermons, and who knows, they may be sermons that do not truly liberate us from our old selves to bring us into the riches we find in Christ Jesus.
On both counts, if we do not decide and choose what God has for us, though very indescribable it may look or sound to us, but to God, it is the greatest gift of all time, we then miss out big time.
Furthermore, it is the ultimate opportunity of a lifetime that God has provided to move us from a place of death to a new place of abundant life.
Our Bible verse describes it clearly, ‘The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus,’ this is the indescribable gift God has for us. So, are we still carrying the weight of sin, insecurities, condemnation, depression, deprivation, uncertainty, not giving enough, or doing enough to earn God’s approval? It is time to drop all such weights sin has put on us, for the only reward or wages sin gives is death.
Rather, let us turn to the only one who holds the gift of eternal life for us to freely enjoy, and this one person is God Almighty. The gift He gives us is in His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus came that we may have this gift and have it more abundantly. For Christ is the ultimate sacrifice for sin, and whoever receives and accepts Christ shall not perish, but have everlasting or eternal life.
For us to freely receive and experience God’s indescribable gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus, we must be willing to venture out of the familiar into the territory called ‘going the full mile with God.
