Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. Joshua 1:9 (KJV).
REFLECT:
The word Courage or Courageous, which I would like to caption as with an uppercase ‘C,’ may mean for many to be raw strength, great tenacity, determination, persistence, perseverance, bravery, or even wisdom to navigate through certain situations. All these definitions may very well define the word courage or courageous, however, these definitions do not give us a true picture of the word courage, especially, if we have to caption it with an uppercase ‘C.’
So, what do we term as true courage? Where does this true courage come from? Or, what is the source of this true Courage we are talking about? What can we derive from functioning in this kind of Courage? To answer these questions, we must examine in detail our Bible verse for today.
True courage going by our Bible verse for the day is hinged on total trust, dependency, and confidence in God, and knowing that He is always with us just as He has promised in His Word.
Simply put, true courage is our ability to take God’s Word for what it says about itself.
Apart from our understanding that this kind of Courage has its base on our ability to put our trust in God, for us to maximize the full potential of this kind of Courage we must go beyond just having to trust or depend on God, but also to have a very strong affirmation that God’s ability or abilities supersede our inabilities no matter what fears, challenges or obstacles we face.
Furthermore, our strong affirmations or convictions should spur or move us to take action. It is only at the point when we take action by acting on the trust, affirmation, and convictions of our understanding of God’s abilities and promises that we can truly experience Courage at work within us. Meaning, we have to step out in faith to put into practice what we believe that God is saying to us or leading us to do.
Therefore, based on these realizations stated above, we can truly say we stand courageous. Why? Because there has been a Supernatural transfer of power based on our obedience to God’s instructions. This Supernatural Power is what we may term as the undisputed strength of God’s kind of Courage. We must understand that it is not our human courage, but rather, it is God’s Courage at work within us, as a result of our obedience to His Word.
Courage or being Courageous is not the absence of fear or trials, but that amid whatever fears, trials, challenges, or obstacles that we face, God is with us and that He can bring us through to victory when we put our trust solely on Him, His abilities, and promises by our obedience to act on His Word.
