The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. Proverbs 11:25 (KJV).
REFLECT:
There are things we do in life that end up being triggers to something else, and these something else could also become triggers themselves, and the pattern could go on and on until it is intentionally or unintentionally stopped.
Triggers could be seen as a device, act, behavior, or attitude that may be utilized to set off, activate, put in action, or cause another kind of device, mechanism, or behavior to function. So, triggers trigger off new triggers, which in turn may trigger off still more new triggers unless stopped at some point.
Another thing we must know about triggers is that they can be good or bad. This means that a good trigger will activate something good, while a bad trigger will set off something bad. We can call it an act of cause and effect. So, bad behavior will likely bring about a bad result, that will in turn set off a long line of existing or recurring bad records going forward.
Examples of bad triggers are- hate, lie, jealousy, envy, sexual immorality, slothfulness, laziness, fear, covetousness, greed, stinginess, and unforgiveness i.e. corruption of every sort. Everything that is under the domain of sin. To further explain how these vices act as triggers here are certain phrase scenarios (Most may not be presented in their exact or original forms) –
Hate begets more hate.
A liar is also a thief.
Envy and jealousy create pathways for murder.
A glutton is a bi-product of greed.
Corruption is a cankerworm.
Unforgiveness is a silent killer.
Or
Unforgiveness is like taking poison and waiting for another person to die.
Envy makes the bone rot, etc.
For more warnings, instructions, and advice against bad triggers,, the Book of Proverbs is an excellent resource to help us.
On the other hand, examples of good triggers are- love, patience, peace, joy, gladness, self-control, humility, and generosity. All the fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5: 22-23 are good and effective triggers. The reason for this is that they trigger in and for our lives, health, prosperity, tranquility, fulfillment, hope, and everything good we can think of.
On a personal note, at this point in our discussion,, we should set forth to think about our choices and way of life. For instance, what triggers are we producing? Can we certainly say that the triggers we give or set off are good?
These are very crucial questions, this is because these triggers do not only affect us, but they also affect the people in our lives, relationships, and our society at large. Therefore, triggers we produce or set-off will determine how far we go in life. They may be life-threatening or life-giving. This is exactly what our Bible verse for today tries to inform us about.
Our Bible verse for today gives us a unique picture of triggers and their cause-and-effect nature. When we trigger off certain habits or behavior such as being liberal, generous, and good, it causes a trigger in others that will cause the same measure to come back to us.
Above all, such triggers will go on to affect and influence more people for good. While a bad or wicked behavior acting as a trigger will have an opposite contrary effect or influence.
Since we know how important these triggers are, and how they influence everything we do, we must make it a point to always be conscious of producing good triggers. How best can we achieve this goal? Our best bet is to lean on God our Heavenly Father through His Son Jesus.
When we come to Jesus daily, He empowers us by the Spirit of Grace; the Holy Spirit who directs teaches, and empowers us with the right tools that will help us to constantly produce good triggers.
Living a life of fruitfulness, abundance and fulfillment will only be realized when we make it our daily priority to be producers and products of good triggers.
