BIBLE VERSE:
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalms 19:14 (KJV).
REFLECTIONS:
Our opening statement sounds quite complex, however, be rest assured it is not that complicated. So what does this statement mean? According to experts on speech and heart matters, we are told that there is a strong connection between the two areas. A lot of the times speech conveys what the heart has stored away in its vaults for a long period of time. The fact is that the heart which is the store house of man’s experiences(be they good or bad) over time would usually look for an avenue for /of expression, and that would likely be through speech, and we know that the mouth is the appropriate tool from which speech is expressed.
The Bible tells us this in many instances, for example Luke 6:45 tells us that “for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” (KJV). Which means, that the mouth gives credence to the experiences of the heart, ie. what it thinks and how it feels and then proclaims it as a verdict. A constant repetition of such speech is what forms our opinions and judgments for life be they good or bad. It is for this reason the Bible warns us to “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23 (KJV). The truth of the matter is that in almost all of man’s interactions and communications between the heart and the mouth there has been 95% or more errors or falsehood occurring in our speech content.
This is because man’s experiences stem from a fallen and sinful nature, hence an unregenerated heart. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9. Meaning that the experiences stored up in the heart of man are more of unpleasant occurrences that give rise to pain, and hurt while the wicked and evil intentions of our speech tends to voice this out through lamentations, angry out bursts, cursing etc. (Remember Job?). So what can we do to change such a situation? Our Bible verse for today gives us some keys on how to turn such situation around for the better. We will examine these keys in a nut shell:
- Surrender your heart to GOD.
- Surrender the totality of your life to GOD by accepting HIS verdict for your life. For HIS verdict is good and HIS verdict is CHRIST JESUS, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV.
- Give GOD all of your life’s experiences stored up in your heart, and allow the blood of JESUS wash away all the negative and bad feelings, emotions, pain, insecurity, anger, and hurt that may be hidden behind the doors to the vaults of your heart.
- Give your words and speech to GOD. Allow HIM through HIS HOLY SPIRIT to direct and redirect the utterances that you speak from your mouth, so that they will be wholesome words of life, truth, healing, restoration, joy, peace, love, prosperity and grace.
As we give our hearts and speech to GOD and allow HIM do a work of Grace in us, then our lives will begin to mirror GOD’S divine nature in all we think, say and do. Only then can the x-ray of our hearts mirror a positive reflection that will in turn synchronize a perfect rhythm with our mouths; and so shall this be in JESUS MIGHTY NAME AMEN!
