A Sure Comfort For The Soul

Jun 6, 2022

A Baby lieing down on a soft bed in comfort and rest.

For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul. Jeremiah 31:25 (KJV).

REFLECT:
Don’t we all long for some comfort in our lives? Having a break in between spells of intense or extremely stressful periods is a welcome relief. The reason why we go all out and put in so much effort to make our homes comfortable and relaxing will speak volumes about what we think about comfort and rest.

Frankly speaking, we humans were built or created for comfort and rest. When we talk about comfort, this does not imply loafing around and being lazy. In Genesis 1:2-3, we are given the picture of the perfect kind of rest. The kind of rest and comfort God instituted, “And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.”(KJV).

The Bible verse above, practically shows us what comfort and rest look like. Divine rest and comfort are God-oriented, these are not conditioned in or by anxiety, worry, struggle, or stress—- all these are negative attributes the devil has put on man. God carried out and is still carrying out His functions and work devoid of such negative attributes. They are all foreign to God and His Divine purposes for our lives.

Yes, it is a fact that our world is ridden with so much stress, anxiety, worry, and all of their antecedent factors of woe and troubles. However, there is still one thing that stands far above all these negative factors our world presents, which is the truth of God’s Word.

Jesus explains this powerful truth of God’s Word to us in His words to His disciples while He was trying to comfort, strengthen and prepare them for the work He had for them to do going forward. The words Jesus speaks can be found in John 14:27, which says, ” Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (KJV).

Our Lord Jesus gives us the secret of God’d Divine Comfort and rest. This secret is in allowing ourselves to dwell in the peace and and love of God. It is God’s peace and love that will create that environment or atmosphere of comfort and rest for us. Outside of this Divine presence of God’s peace and love are all manner of wickedness, fears and distresses.

It is the same and exact truth that our Bible verse for today brings our way (Jeremiah 31:25). God is saying to us that amidst all of the chaos, anxiety, worries, and fears that our world tends to project against us, He the Lord is a sure comfort to our souls. He has provided a counter weapon for every negative attribute, which is His word of peace and love. All we have to do is come to Him and receive from Him and be satisfied, satiated, and comforted in JESUS MIGHTY NAME AMEN.

Therefore, let us come with sure confidence to our Heavenly Father and roll all of our cares on Him, for He cares for us. He is more willing than we think and is ready to be our source of comfort and rest.
