Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 2 Samuel 7:22 (KJV).
REFLECT:
It makes a huge difference when someone knows enough about what it involves to live out their kind of lifestyle. For instance, to live the lifestyle of a medical doctor you must have ample knowledge of what it takes to do so. To work and live excellently in a particular career or profession there must be a period of training to acquire the specific knowledge and understanding for that to happen.
This also goes for relationships. Having a good amount of knowledge and understanding about an acquaintance will go a long way to help in the success of the relationship. However, where there is very little knowledge or in-depth understanding of both individuals involved in such an affair could be a disaster waiting to happen.
There may be good intentions on a personal level, however, without the knowledge and understanding of character traits, it would be very difficult to relate with each other. There will always be disagreements and disunity between the parties involved. To this statement, the Bible has this to say in Amos 3:3 “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (KJV).
According to the Bible verse above, such an act can’t happen, the act of agreement and unity must come with knowledge and understanding. This means that, if we cared enough for a person or whatever we are involved in we must put in our best to get to know and understand the person. In this way, we would get the full benefit out of the experience.
In concurrence with our discussion, our Bible verse for today turns our attention to the unique and powerful personality traits of God. However, for us to come to terms with this character trait presented we must have made the effort to come to a deep knowledge and understanding of who this God is. It will do us no good if we are estranged and out of touch with who this God is. James 2:19 explains this clearly “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” (KJV).
We may believe in the existence of an all-powerful, seeing and knowing God, but without an intimate and personal relationship, we lose out on all that we would benefit from this God. Until we connect with Him in the ways we ought to we can not truly say that we believe in Him and cannot relate to Him like our Bible verse for today — 2 Samuel 7:22– accurately describes Him “Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.”
So, how can we make this Bible verse our reality? The answer is, that we must work to get to know, understand and build a deep and intimate relationship with this God. Building a relationship with God is always a work in progress. We are lifelong learners when it comes to getting to know God. There are so many dimensions in God, the word of God gives us this understanding that eternity is not enough for us to even completely know and worship Him.
However, thank goodness that He has made it easy for us to get to know Him by providing only one entry point to Him. This entry point is Jesus. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 (KJV).
When we accept Jesus into our lives, He brings us to the Father. The Father then releases to us His Holy Spirit to teach and guide us into the whole ramifications of who He is.
Knowing who God our Heavenly Father is will require our openness to want to cultivate a deeper relationship with Him. For this to happen we must do it the right way, through Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Only then can we say we have come to a place of deep knowing and fellowship with the one true God.
