A Fortress of Renowned Safety

“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” Psalms 91:2 (KJV).

REFLECT:
One of the most important needs of man on planet earth is safety. We desire to be safe, secure, and protected.

So as a result we look for places of safety, we try to build shelters for security around our persons. For example, when we look around our communities we find homes with tall or high fences and gates, we put our money and precious gems in strong vaults and safes. We even build invisible gates and fences around our persons, our emotions, and our hearts. We do all this in a bid to guard, protect and keep ourselves safe from plunder by thieves.

All these measures we take to safeguard ourselves have become, to us, a kind of fort, refuge, or a fortress, and we in turn have become refugees in our self-made protective covering.

However, we would wonder how much protection these measures have been to us. Of course, we have heard of failed or distressed banks, stock market crashes, companies going bankrupt, large fortresses that were broken into by armed bandits, hearts and emotions getting deceived and in the wake of all these happenings lives, property, finances are lost.

So what do we do? Where can we find absolute safety? Our Bible verse for today gives us the solution we need. That solution is in one who not only stands as a Place of safety but also as a Person of safety. This person is God Almighty.

The Bible verse today urges us with all intensity to put our trust in God and make Him our refuge and fortress, and why should we do this? How are we sure that this is indeed the secure hope we have been looking for?

The following explanation and fact presentation will answer the questions in the paragraph above.

When we study the historical accounts in the Bible, we find that all through the Bible we see how dependable, reliable, and faithful God is to His Words and Promises. He is the only Living, Active, and Powerful Spiritual Being whose Word can perform and accomplish all we can ever imagine in time, space and dimension.

Furthermore, Jesus proved this fact to us in His death, resurrection from the dead, and ascension into heaven. After Jesus rose from the dead He categorically told us that all power in heaven and on earth has been given to Him. He went on to tell us that in His name, since we believe, we shall cast out demons, heal the sick, be protected from every deadly poison and that He will always be with us even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16: 17-18. Without any doubt, this is the ultimate place of safety and security we should endeavor to seek after.

Our defense, our safety can only be assured when we put ourselves and our trust in God Almighty as the only Place and Person of our Refuge and Fortress.
