A Perfect Law

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Psalm 19:7 (KJV).

REFLECT:
Societies are built on laws and regulations, without which no sane society can function. Societal laws are created to save us from any form of harm, keep us in check, make us aware of what is right and wrong, acceptable things and things that are not acceptable, how to relate and live with each other in peace and harmony. They protect the rights of a person to exist in freedom, dignity, and respect.

However, there are quite some things societal laws cannot achieve and they are as follows:
1. Consistency- we see that legislative laws in our societies are always reviewed, revised, and changed to suit changes in the times in each passing generation and for the interests of different groups.

Also, when we go through different societies, cultures, and beliefs, we find that the laws and practices that are acceptable in one place are not the same in another, which gave rise to the popular saying and attitude, ‘my culture is better than yours.’ Why is this so? Because people tend to judge each other based on the standards of their laws, which, by the way, are ridden with a lot of errors.

2. Lacks the power to fully transform the soul of man. Even though these laws help keep us in check, they cannot truly satisfy man’s inmost desires and his need to be free from sin and guilt. As we all know as a result of the fall in the garden of Eden, man became sinful and could no longer attain the standard that the Glory of God required.

Therefore, our quest for today is to find out if there is a more perfect law that we could rely on which can stand as the answer to all of the needs of man. Our Bible verse for today gives us the perfect solution. This solution is the law of ALMIGHTY GOD as stated in the Bible; and why does this verse proffer such bold claims?

The reasons for this are as follows:

Firstly, it is perfect and righteous. The law of God is fair and just, and this cuts across all levels of society. The Bible tells us that God is no respecter of persons this is in direct conflict with societal laws which may exclude certain classes in the society from some forms of penalties or judgment. Even though it is usually declared that no one is above the law, however, if we are truthful to ourselves this is usually not the case.

Secondly, the Law of God is consistent and unchanging. All through the Bible, we are never told that GOD’S laws or statutes are revised, reviewed, reformed, or cancels out itself, rather it fulfills itself i.e. it brings into realization all that it claims or promises. Thus God’s Word stays the same for all and sundry and from generation to generation.

Thirdly the word of God has the ability and sole Power to expose, save and transform. When God’s laws and statutes in the Bible are applied in the life of a person or society in general it is powerful enough to expose the depravity of the sinful nature of man or that society. The righteous jurisdiction of the law of God presents sin just the way it is–wicked and evil, thus leaving no room for indirect suggestions.

Finally, God’s Word has the power to save man from his sin and transform man’s sinful nature. It was, for this reason, Jesus came to die for mankind, to save him from all his sins, redeem him from the evil of sin and darkness, and then present to us the Holy Spirit, which provides the power needed to transform us and make us walk righteously before GOD.

The law of God as reflected in God’s Word is the only hope we have to help us walk righteously before GOD as well as achieve the requirements of a stable and just society. For this reason, it possesses all the qualities to be the most perfect and complete law.
