An Intimacy Worth Having

BIBLE VERSE:

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Colossians 3:16 (KJV)

REFLECT:
When we value a person or thing, it is quite understandable that we tend to spend a lot of time around that person or thing. We make it a point that our object of value is pursued after, well taken care of, attended to, and has a secure place in our hearts.

An indicative litmus test used for this purpose can be drawn from what JESUS said in Matthew (6:21), ‘For where your treasure is, there will your hearts be also. Going forward, we may wish to ask ourselves certain questions such as: Who or what do I value? Who or what do I treasure the most in my heart? If what I value or treasure the most is seen to be misplaced or incorrect, how do I realign and refocus my heart and mind to capture that one true thing or person that must be valued or treasured?

Of course, when asked the question of what we value or treasure the most, most of us would need a bit of a sit down to take some time to think this through. This is because we have so many things we treasure and can not differentiate which one of these things or perhaps people who should be put in the most treasured or most valued category. This is a very confusing lifestyle and confusion does not provide anything good and thus can never take us forward in life.

Others still may have somehow worked out what things or people they may value the most in life, however, they are still outside the boundaries of the one true being that must be valued or treasured above every other thing, therefore, there is still some measure of confusion with these categories of people.

So, how do we eliminate such confusion? This is what our Bible verse for today seeks to rectify, giving a wonderful focus and answer to our questions. In this Bible verse, we are advised to make God and HIS Word the focus and the main priority in our lives, and He must be valued or treasured above all.

To value GOD and HIS Word we would always make it a point to strive to have GOD’S Word dwelling richly and permanently in our hearts. We must never hesitate to do everything in our power to obey everything written in the Bible so that we never lose our object of value – God our Heavenly Father and His word dwelling in our hearts.

Therefore, for us to achieve the goals written above we must make it a point to (a). Study the word of God written in the Bible. (b). Be in fellowship with God through Christ Jesus. (c). Have a communal intimacy with the Holy Spirit who will then help teach us how we can constantly have the word of God dwelling richly in our hearts.

As we make time for the Word of GOD by constant studying, fellowshipping and worshipping, we will see a realignment in our value focus. The word of GOD will take its rightful place as it dwells richly in our hearts, bringing true transformation to our lives.
