Codes to Abide By

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? Micah 6:8 (KJV).

REFLECT:
Models of direction or guidelines such as blueprints, codes of conduct, agreements, and contracts are very huge and important parts of our lives. Corporations, companies, and establishments would usually put these models out for their employees to adhere to.

As human beings, we all need boundaries in place to help guide us on how to behave civilly towards each other. Without having such guidelines set up as boundaries we would end up having dysfunctional lives and societies. Sadly, a lot of lives and societies are throwing such cordial rules of thumb out of the window, hence we see a lot of chaotic and irresponsible lifestyles on display these days.

As Christians, the Bible refers to us as light and salt of the earth, which means that we must walk by the dictates, guidelines, and requirements of the Word of God. The question is, how can we be the light and salt as dictated in the Bible? What precise guidelines must we follow? Our Bible verse for today explains this in simple terms, and this is as follows:

1. All things have been revealed to us in the Word of God. God’s instructions are clearly revealed and easy enough to understand, they are not hidden, obscure or confusing.

2. The instructions revealed in the Word of God not only show the goodness of God, but they are good in and all by themselves, and as such, they are good enough for us to follow.

3. We must walk following the nature and character of God Almighty, our Heavenly Father just as the Bible has presented such nature and character which are righteousness, justice, love, mercy, and humility.

In summary, the instructions in God’s Word should be the only template for our individual and collective code of conduct to abide by. This should form the basis of our lifestyle, relationships, and interactions.

As we begin to give ourselves to understanding the scope of God’s nature and character through studying and following His Word in the Bible, it will in turn give us a clearer vision of the scope of His Redemptive power.

PLEASE PRAY ALONG:

Guide Me

FATHER GOD, thank You for showing me what honors You. You care deeply about the people You’ve created, and You ask me to do the same. This week, show me how to walk humbly alongside You, and to apply your Word as the code to abide by. And as I do that, please help me to act justly and mercifully. Show me how to reflect your kind, loving, merciful presence to those around me. In JESUS MIGHTY NAME AMEN.
