The Way to God’s Heart.

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. Psalms 95:6 (KJV).

REFLECT:
Worship is a universal term, act, and phenomenon, it is not foreign to man. We see this activity happening in every culture and people group. However, the questions to ponder in connection to the aspect of worship are: Why do we worship? Who should we worship? And how must we worship?

The reason why the practice of worship or worshipping is such a fundamental activity in man is that we as humans have been created to worship. That is why it is an intrinsic nature of man. We must look for what to put our affection, adoration, and adulation on.

However, the concern here is that in most cases the object of worship and reasons why we worship is usually misplaced; our worship is usually not directed to the right recipient and even when the object of focus is right, the intention is not.

One fact to take note of here, which a lot of people do not pay much attention to, is that human nature loves to hinge itself on something or someone who has a track record of being reliable, dependable, trustworthy, faithful, safe. Someone who can give us the confidence and assurance we need.

To find this supernatural being who possesses the characteristics we need, our souls have always been on a quest, a search to acquaint and identify ourselves with the truth. Most of us hop around looking, going from one object to another. In the course of this search, we may fall prey to devious and counterfeit representations, and may finally realize that they do not satisfy these needs or meet the criteria we are looking for.

Some of us after realizing our mistakes and misplaced affections resolve in ourselves and are determined to continue to search and seek until we find the right being who perfectly fits the characteristics we have been looking for. Others, unfortunately, may decide to set up camp and stay with what they are familiar with even though they know their choice is wrong.

Therefore, who should we worship? And how should we worship? There is only one person or being who fits all the characteristics listed above and even more. This one person is God Almighty. His wonderful and glorious deeds fill the pages of the Bible. Psalms 34:8 gives us an invitation to come taste and see that this God who is Lord over all is good and is the only one worthy of all our worship.

Even more important and amazing is that this God reveals His greatest need and heart’s desire to us, this may come as a big surprise to us that God Almighty has needs and that we can also render to Him a satisfaction. This need is that He wants a deep relationship with us. For this reason, He sent His Son Jesus to bring us back to Him, so that we may be one with Him as our Heavenly Father.

Therefore, as we accept Jesus into our lives, we automatically accept God the Father, and from this time onwards God our Father expects us to come before Him to relate with Him. To achieve such a close relationship, we must do so with all our hearts, in reverence, adoration, adulation, humility, awe, joy, wonder, and thanksgiving, and according to our Bible verse for today, this is how we must worship this God.

When we come to realize and receive the revelation that what God says about Himself in the Bible, how in all His ways He is most dependable, reliable, trustworthy, faithful, and full of love and goodness, the zeal of our worship will never ever run out.
